Prosthesis: Manufacturing Process

1.Casting 2.Rectification 3.Positive model 4.Molding with resin 5.Pre-fitting

1. Casting
Cast the patient's foot part using gypsum plaster wrap. When gypsum hardens and removes from the patient's foot, the "negative model" is completed.
2.Rectification and modification of the model
Pouring gypsum into the negative model and eventually gypsum hardens, and then the "positive model" is prepared. It is straightened by piling up or cutting down the surface of the model, in order to fit the patient's foot shape properly.
3.Positive model
This is the completed positive model. Manufacturing starts with this model.
4.Molding with resin

The socket (part fixed into patient's foot) is made by sticking sponges and leathers so that any pains should not occur to the part that comes in directly contact with the diseased part, and injecting resin outside.
5.Pre-fitting

Pipe is installed and adjusted with the foot according to the length of the foot to a completed socket. After adjustment, foam rubber (like spongy material) will be covered on the pipe as if it looks like the same appearance as in other foot. Nowadays, no foam rubber covering is more in common in daily life of amputated-foot persons.
